There’s something about photographing families in their own space, in the rhythm of their everyday life, that never fails to move me.

A few months ago, I had the privilege of spending time with the Shcherbyna family. Their session wasn’t about posing, props, or perfection. It was about presence, about slowing down enough to notice the small gestures, the quiet rituals, the soft in-between moments that make a family a family.

Being Home, Being Together while Capturing Real Family Life

At home, life unfolds in a way that’s messy, beautiful, and completely unrepeatable.

I watched them in those fleeting instants, moments that don’t look like much at the time, but years later, they become everything.

One day, these photographs will be the memories their children return to. Not the staged smiles or the posed portraits, but the way it felt. The warmth. The connection. The quiet magic that only comes from being fully present.

Slowing Down to See

Lately, I’ve been craving sessions that move slowly — the kind that allow me, and the families I work with, to really see what’s in front of us.

This session felt like that. There were no schedules, no forced moments. Just a gentle rhythm — a walk through their neighborhood, a pause on the steps of their home, a moment to breathe and notice.

These sessions aren’t about capturing the perfect image. They’re about honoring the story as it naturally unfolds. The small gestures, the quiet glances, the messy hands and unplanned giggles — these are the details that tell a family’s story with honesty and heart.

A Memory Made Without Trying

Sometimes, the most beautiful stories are the ones that simply exist without effort. That’s what this session felt like: gentle, unforced, and entirely present.

A walk. A pause. A memory being made — without even trying.

These are the images that families hold onto for a lifetime. These are the photographs their children will return to one day, to remember not just what life looked like, but what it felt like.

Some photos from this family session were published on The Beloved Journal Magazine in the Fall 2025 issue. Check it out here.

Reflection for Families Reading This

If you’re thinking about booking a session, remember this: you don’t need a perfect backdrop, a special outfit, or a meticulously planned day. The most meaningful photographs come when you slow down, lean in, and simply exist together.

Presence, not perfection — connection, not poses — that’s what will make your family photos timeless.

Let’s tell your family’s story — the way it feels right now.

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT LORENZA

I am a family, newborn and maternity photographer in Vancouver, BC where I live with my wife Ilenia and our two-year old daughter, Amelie.

I grew up in Italy, where some of my happiest memories were spent flipping through old photo albums with my grandmother and my mum.
I’d get lost in those images. Even then, I understood that these photos weren’t just pictures. They were time machines. They held feelings that might have otherwise faded.

Photography has always been that for me:
a way to hold on.
to return.
to remember what really matters.

I began with a disposable camera and a quiet desire to document everything around me. Over time, that love deepened, and in 2023, when I became a mother myself, it changed everything.
Suddenly, the everyday moments became precious. I understood how uncomfortable it can feel to rush a session, to ask children to perform, to chase something that doesn’t feel true.

That experience shaped the way I work today — calmly, slowly, and with deep respect for your family as you are.
