Some sessions feel like stepping right into a family’s rhythm — slow, tender, and full of small moments that say everything. This September morning on Main Street was exactly that. I spent a few hours with a mother and her son, simply documenting their time together as they moved through one of Vancouver’s most charming neighbourhoods.
We began our morning at Liberty Bakery, a cozy corner spot that feels like a warm hug the moment you walk in. The air smelled of fresh pastries and coffee, and the soft morning light filtered through the windows in the most beautiful way. While they shared breakfast — crumbs on the table, warm mugs between their hands, and giggles over bites of sweet pastries — I quietly captured the ease of their connection. It was simple, everyday magic.
After breakfast, we wandered down Main Street with no plan other than to let curiosity lead the way. He stopped to look at murals, chase shadows, and climb every step he could find. She followed with that effortless, tender attentiveness only a mother carries. Their laughter echoed between storefronts, and the city became their playground.
We ended our adventure at Slice Vancouver, squeezing into the photo booth for a few frames of pure, joyful chaos — silly faces, tight hugs, and memories they can hold in their hands. Photo booths always feel a bit nostalgic, and watching them share that moment added a layer of sweetness to the story we were telling.
What I loved most about this session was how honest it felt — nothing staged, nothing rushed. Just a mother and her son, enjoying a morning together exactly as they are. These are the kinds of memories that become treasures years down the road.
