There’s something grounding about returning to the same people in a different season of their life.
I first photographed Annette and David last August, when they were still waiting for Kaslo. Their days were quieter then, slower, more spacious. This time felt different in all the right ways. Not louder, not chaotic, just… fuller. A new rhythm settling in.
We started their newborn session at home, where most of these early days naturally unfold. No pressure to perform, no need to go anywhere. Just the three of them, moving through a regular day. Feeding, holding, pausing. Kaslo wide awake, taking everything in.
Their home held it all, the in-between moments, the small adjustments, the quiet confidence that starts to build without you really noticing it.
After some time inside, we stepped out into their neighbourhood. The same streets they’ve likely walked countless times, now with Kaslo resting against David in the carrier. It felt simple and familiar, which is exactly the point. These aren’t just backdrops. They’re part of their story.
I think there’s often this idea that you need a big location or something visually striking to make photos meaningful. But more and more, I find the opposite to be true. The places that matter most are usually the ones closest to you. Your home. Your block. The quiet corners you pass every day without thinking twice.
That’s where life actually happens.
At-home newborn photos in Vancouver aren’t about creating a version of your life that looks perfect. They’re about noticing what’s already there: the way you hold your baby, the way light moves through your space, the feeling of a season that’s both fleeting and deeply ordinary at the same time.
Annette and David’s session felt like that. Honest, unforced, and rooted in where they are right now.
And that’s always enough.
