What to Expect During Your Family Photo Session

What to Expect During Your Family Photo Session // Family photography by Lorenza Tessari Photography

Family photos don’t have to be stressful or staged. My sessions are slow, gentle, and focused on what matters most — connection, love, and the little moments that make your family who you are. Here’s what to expect during your family photo session (Vancouver family photographer’s guide).

The Heart Behind My Family Photo Session

If you’ve ever felt nervous about booking family photos, you’re not alone.
Maybe you’re worried your kids won’t cooperate, you don’t know what to do with your hands, or your home (or neighbourhood) isn’t “pretty enough.”

Take a deep breath — you can let all of that go.

My sessions aren’t about performing or posing — they’re about presence.
About slowing down, leaning in, and letting me capture your family as you are right now:
beautifully imperfect, wildly loving, and completely real.

Before Your Family Photo Session — Connecting and Preparing Together

Once you’ve booked your session, we’ll take time to connect and make sure everything feels easy and intentional.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • We’ll chat about what matters most to you — the feeling you want to remember, the stage your kids are in, and the kind of energy your family brings.
  • I’ll help with styling (comfort always over perfection) and guide you toward a location that feels like you — whether that’s your home, your favourite park, or a slow walk through your neighbourhood.
  • My goal is to make this whole experience effortless — from the planning to the day of your session. You’ve done enough just by showing up with your people.

On the Day — Flow, Play, and Presence

When your session day arrives, we’ll keep things beautifully simple.

  • We’ll start slowly, giving everyone time to settle in, explore, and relax.
  • There’s no need to pose or “look at the camera.” I’ll gently guide you with prompts and playful ideas — maybe a walk hand in hand, a tickle fight, or a quiet cuddle in the morning light.
  • These sessions are completely kid-led. If someone needs a snack, a break, or a cuddle, we pause. If your toddler runs off to explore, we follow.
  • The beauty lies in the movement, the laughter, and the honest in-between moments — the ones you’ll cherish most later.

My job is to hold space — to notice the light, the gestures, and the emotion — and to capture it all with heart and intention.

After Your Session — Reliving the Magic

A couple of weeks after your session, you’ll receive an online gallery — a hand-edited story of your family as it truly is.

These images will only grow more meaningful with time.

You’ll be able to download, share, and print your photos easily.

A Gentle Reminder — Come As You Are

The best family photos don’t happen when everything goes perfectly.
They happen when you let go, stay present, and allow real life to unfold.

So come as you are. Let the session be what it is. I’ll take care of the rest.

Because years from now, when your children look back at these photos, they won’t remember the chaos or the imperfections —
they’ll remember how it felt to be loved by you. 💛

BEHIND THE LENS

ABOUT LORENZA

I am a family, newborn and maternity photographer in Vancouver, BC where I live with my wife Ilenia and our two-year old daughter, Amelie.

Since I was a child growing up in Italy, I've had an unwavering love for photography. Some of my fondest memories are of afternoons spent flipping through my grandmother and mum's photo albums — collections of family vacations, weddings, and celebrations of life.

I’d get lost in the pictures, studying the details, and reliving those moments through the images. I remember rushing to the local photography shop with my disposable camera, determined to preserve as many memories as I could through film. Little did I know then, that my love for capturing moments would grow into a lifelong passion.

Fast forward to today, and my journey in photography has evolved from a personal hobby to a meaningful career. But at its core, the love I have for photographing life is still about preserving moments that matter. That’s what I bring to every session: a deep appreciation for the significance of the memories we make every day, and a commitment to capturing them authentically.
