This Vancouver in-home maternity session with kids unfolded on a quiet, light-filled morning. I documented a growing family in the comfort of their own space. We started in the bedroom, where soft natural light poured in and shaped the scene.
From there, I focused on mom and her two daughters, ages six and eight. In those first moments, they moved around each other with ease. Meanwhile, small gestures, closeness, and a tender sense of anticipation filled the space. Although nothing was spoken, everything felt present in each frame.
For this Vancouver maternity photography session, I used a blend of portraiture and an observational, editorial approach. As a result, there was space for both connection and stillness to emerge naturally.
Afterwards, I shifted focus and photographed the mother on her own. In that moment, she felt quiet, grounded, and reflective. Then, I gradually brought the whole family together. When her partner joined, the energy shifted. Consequently, the session gained depth, warmth, and a fuller sense of their shared story.
I photographed most of this in-home maternity session on 35mm film. In addition, this choice felt aligned with the atmosphere we created. Film holds colour, grain, and depth in a unique way. At the same time, it feels intentional and unhurried. It slows the pace of the session and, ultimately, it adds a timeless quality to the final images.
Overall, this Vancouver maternity session at home reflects what I am always drawn to. That is, honest, artful family photography. In other words, images that capture not just how a moment looked, but how it felt to be there.
